Kalleske Greenock Shiraz 2018 750ml

The Kalleske estate at Greenock, in the North-Western Barossa Valley, produces Greenock Shiraz as a single vineyard wine from low-yielding Shiraz grapes. Vine cuttings for these plants come from a vineyard that was established on the land in the late 1800s. The vines are now attentively tended to by sixth- and seventh-generation family members. A rich, full-bodied Shiraz that will benefit from prolonged aging has been produced using traditional winemaking techniques and maturation in hogsheads made of American and French oak. The Kalleske estate is where Greenock Shiraz is cultivated, vinified, and aged, making it a true family estate wine.

Dark purple-black describes the hue of the 2018 Greenock Shiraz. It smells expressive, with notes of toasty wood, milk chocolate, marinated olives, plum pudding, and rose flowers. Rich and full-bodied, the flavour is a perfect example of Greenock Shiraz from a top-notch vintage. Ripe dark fruits and earthy spices are the ideal complement to one another. A supporting role for the main fruit is added by the carefully integrated oak. Tannins are powerful, but because they are natural, they are flawlessly harmonized and add a strong, compelling structure. A highly sophisticated, well-balanced wine has a protracted aftertaste.
