It has a deep purple-black hue and progressively unfolds to release enticing aromas of crème de cassis, wild blueberries, and Black Forest cake with nuances of redcurrant jelly, rose oil, dark chocolate, and cedar chest, as well as a hint of star anise. The medium- to full-bodied tongue bursts with sumptuous black fruit, aromatic earth, and floral notes. It is supported by a rock-solid structure of superbly ripe, fine-grained tannins and a smooth backbone of freshness, finishing with great length.
Even though it’s surprisingly approachable and mouthwatering right now, this is classic Margaux at its most beguiling. You must cellar it for at least 6 to 8 years, though, in order to fully appreciate its splendor, and then wait another 40 years to witness its transformation.
One of the legendary Grands Crus that have played a key role in the development of Bordeaux’s reputation, and more specifically the Left Bank’s reputation, in the Medoc region is Château Margaux. The 262 hectares of land that Château Margaux is currently located on are the same ones it was on at the end of the 17th century, with a third being used for vine production. Château Margaux began a new chapter in its history when André Mentzelopoulos bought the property in 1977. The new owner, a true visionary, made amazing improvements to the vineyard and cellars. Corinne Mentzelopoulos continued in her father’s footsteps after his passing by taking over the family business and bringing her own vigor and passion to the Château Margaux estate.
