Description

One of the most iconic wines to come out of Italy. Considered one of the best of all the Super-Tuscan wines and certainly one of the most sought after. This wine was the first Sangiovese matured in barriques, the first current red wine combined with untraditional types (particularly Cabernet), and one of the first Chianti Classico red wines that did not employ white grapes. Tignanello is a watershed moment. It is made from a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.

The Tenuta Tignanello estate is located in the center of Chianti Classico, between the Greve and Pesa river basins. It covers 319 hectares (788 acres), of which approximately 130 (321 acres) are dedicated to vineyards. Tignanello and Solaia, two of the estate’s prized vines, are located on the same slope, on soils derived from Pliocene coastal marlstone rich in limestone and schist. Throughout the growth season, the vines benefit from hot days and chilly evenings. These vineyards provide the estate’s two flagship wines, Solaia and Tignanello, which have been described as “among the most influential wines in the history of Italian viticulture” by the worldwide press.

Solaia and Tignanello, according to Marchesi Antinori, are a continual challenge and a never-ending passion. Tignanello has vines of indigenous Sangiovese grapes as well as other unusual varietals like Cabernet Franc.
