A family-owned winery founded in 1924 by a man named Peter Mertes. Initially, it was a tiny winery in Minheym, a Moselle settlement. Gustave Willkie, his son, began extensively studying the Rhine region in 1950, including Oppenheim, Bingen, and Mainz. The family had established themselves in the Rheingau and Nahe as early as 1960.
