Auchroisk 25Yrs Special Release 2016 700ml

Auchroisk single malt bottlings are rare because the distillery was built in 1974 to supply malt whisky for the famous J&B blends, making this 25-year-old single malt quite elusive and collectible.

This expression is Auchroisk’s third appearance in Diageo’s 2016 special release program, following a 20-year-old in 2010 and a 30-year-old in 2012. This 2016 release, matured in American oak and refilling European oak butts, has become a firm favourite among whisky connoisseurs and collectors alike.

It starts a little varnishy, but in a good way, and unfolds in aroma on a fruit salad covered in custard. The whiffs of old cellars and damp wood add dimension. With water: ideal! More nuance, blond cigarettes, teas, eucalyptus leaves. Tinned fruits and pepper, Weetabix, peaches, and pepper Nothing is disliked. Water, once again, opens new doors. Medium, a little spicier, and more towards a speculoos finish.
