It has earthy, licorice, tobacco leaf, and sweet mulberry flavours entwined with cedary and perhaps some thickness from the Merlot. It should provide ten years or longer of delightful sipping.

One of the best terroirs for wine-growing in the Bordeaux region is the renowned Gunz Terrace, where the vines are planted. Large, round pebbles and various clays on top of an iron-rich subsurface give the soils of Vieux Château Certan its unique characteristics.
