Latour-Martillac 2016, pale golden with dazzling accents. Aromas of flowery (verbena, honeysuckle) and exotic fruits (passion fruit) and lemon are complex and aromatic. The taste is incredibly fresh, with a delicious creaminess to balance it out. There is elegance in the palate, with the same complex, fruity scents of white peach and ripe apricots.
Verbena flowery and crisp mint notes. The finish has an unusually long length. Consumption during the next 8-10 years.
A moist and warm winter resulted in an early and even bud break. The rainy weather continued until Spring, accompanied by some very chilly temperatures. Full flowering occurred miraculously between the 7th and 11th of June, over a 5-day period of excellent weather and relatively hot temps. These conditions favoured an early and uniform flowering, followed by a strong fruit return. The midpoint of the berry color shift occurred around the 10th of August, with excellent uniformity across all grape varietals.
Despite the unpredictable swings of Nature; the heat and the lack of rain, the vines were able to retain a healthy foliage right up until the beginning of the harvest, thanks to both water reserves and plot ploughing. Harvesting began eight days late. Light rains in early September and a wonderful Indian summer throughout harvesting ensured that all grape varietals were perfectly ripe and in good health, elevating the 2016 vintage to the ranks of the best vintages.
