Chapelle d’Ausone Saint Emilion Grand Cru 2011 750ml

Description

Rich, broad, and expansive, with aromas of plum, blueberry, and black raspberry fruit, powdered chalk, and flowers, this gorgeous wine has a thick ruby/purple color. The wine is lengthy, rich, and exquisitely pure, with a medium to full body.

The most distinguished estate in Saint-Émilion is a tie between Château Ausone and Cheval-Blanc. One of the four Premier Grand Cru Classé (A) wines of the Saint-Émilion classification, Ausone has the name of the Roman poet Ausonius, who formerly lived in this region (together with Angélus, Cheval Blanc, and Pavie).

The vines of Château Ausone are thought to be the oldest wine estate in the region; they were once part of a villa held by the Roman poet and proconsul Ausonius, who lived there for about 2,000 years. The Vauthier family has owned these revered vineyards for several centuries, reaching the 12th generation with Pauline; the relationship to the current name is evident.
