This lovely wine has a rich taste and silky tannins, allowing it to be drunk both young and after extended age. With aging, they develop a subtle, nuanced aromatic smell reminiscent of cedar and Havana tobacco. This wine, like its predecessor Chateau Talbot, is classic and exquisite, with a clear, well-designed structure and a long, fresh finish.
From the Saint-Julien plateau, Château Talbot may be seen in the distance, surrounded by vines, parks, and tall trees. The estate has an extensive history. Its name is derived from Connétable Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, governor of Guyenne and a well-known English military commander who was defeated at the Battle of Castillon in 1453. Château Talbot was designated as Saint-Julien’s fourth classified growth in 1855, during Emperor Napoleon III’s Médoc and Graves growth classifications. Désiré Cordier purchased it in 1918 after it had been owned by the Marquis of Aux for many decades.
This is one of the finest second wines from the Médoc. Connétable made its debut in the 1960s. It has benefited over the years from meticulous vineyard management and increasingly stringent selections.
