This superb Saint-Emilion exemplifies the strength and traditional character of the 2014 vintage. The optimum maturity of the tannins gives the wine a long, fresh, and fragrant aftertaste. The wine’s rich, practically black colour indicates its young, indicating that it should be decanted for two hours before tasting. The wine will open up while staying reserved, revealing a meaty, rich, and fruity character that reflects its terroir. It already goes well with a leg of lamb, which brings out the richness of the wine, but it will be even better in five years…or maybe ten.
Chateau Grand Corbin was an ordinary section of the domain owned by the Black Prince, Edward, son of King of England Edward III, in the Middle Ages. The estate was purchased in 1960 by Alain Giraud (Alain Giraud), and after his death in 1982, it was handed to Philippe Giraud’s management. Giraud family once held the famed Chateau Trotanoy economy in Pomerol in the 16th century. In late 2010, Chateau Grand Corbin was purchased by the insurance business Groupe SMABTP, which also owns Chateau Haut Corbin and Le Jurat appellasone in Saint-Emilion, as well as Chateau Cantemerle in the Haut-MĂ©doc AOC. The ChĂ¢teau Grand Corbin and Chateau Haut Corbin were combined in 2012, allowing the vineyard acreage to be expanded by 6.4 hectares.
