We’ll never forget 2003 as the year of the heat wave. The summer’s unusual heat and dryness were the primary causes of the vintage. The freshness produced by Montrose’s soils helped the vines withstand the heat and mitigate the effects of the heat wave.

The hot and dry weather did not stop Montrose’s terroir from producing excellent wines. The wines had remarkable aging potential and were incredibly rich and fat, without any over-maturing. The tannins were strong but yet mellow and graceful. Waiting for the 2003 vintage will be worthwhile. a vintage classified as a Montrose historical success.
