Chateau Phelan Segur 2013 750ml

Description

This excellent wine boasts one of Saint Estèphe’s best aromatics—more fruit concentration, blackberry and raspberry combined with iodine. This wine appears to have flowered in bottle, both on the nose and in the palate. The palate is medium-bodied with meaty, juicy tannins. It has weight and presence, with a muscular finish that may lack refinement but has good fruit intensity. Drink this flavourful, easy-going Saint Estèphe for the next 5 to 8 years.

Chateau Phelan Segur’s formal history dates back to the merger of two prior Bordeaux wine estates, Clos de Garramey and Segur. Bernard Phelan united the holdings in the St. Estephe appellation by combining the existing Segur name with his own, as was customary at the time, to form Chateau Phelan Segur. Bernard Phelan purchased Segur from Nicolas Alexandre de Segur, often known as The Prince of Vines. During his lifetime, de Segur controlled a number of famous Bordeaux chateaux in the Medoc, including Chateau Mouton Rothschild, Chateau Lafite Rothschild, and Chateau Latour. It was purchased by Xavier Gardinier in 1985 and is now operated by his sons, Thierry and Laurent.
