Intense colour of red. On the nose, there is a hint of oak along with scents of violets and somewhat candied red fruit.
This wine is robust, filling, and perfectly balanced. When the wine is young, the tannins are fairly noticeable; as it ages, they become softer. Excellent length.

It pairs well with aged cheeses and roast meats such as lamb chops, lamb shoulder, hare in cherries, etc.

The property is situated next to the well-known “Clos des Ducs” in Pommard, south of the village of Volnay. The top of the parcel is made of marly limestone, which is distinct from the bottom, which is made of hard limestone, because the landscape is on a very deep slope (40 meters elevation). Clay and thick, rich, deep limestone make up the soil, which is generally cool in temperature. The most robust Volnay in the domaine, Pitures,” has a more Pommard-like personality.
