Description

Jukuko and exquisite ester incense from Kaoru barrels Taste is accompanied by a profound sense evocative of leather and peat; a faint woody note tightens the aftertaste, followed by a delightful afterglow.

Kirin’s Fuji-Sanroku is a blended whisky created at their Fuji-Gotemba distillery. The limited batch of 18-year-olds was released in 2018. With Japanese whisky thriving in the 1970s, it wasn’t long until Canadian distillery behemoth Seagram wanted in on the action. In 1973, they established the Gotemba distillery in collaboration with their Japanese distributors, the Kirin Brewing Co. Kirin supplied operational support, while Seagram contributed hundreds of years of distilling expertise from its Chivas Brothers portfolio in Scotland, as well as a constant supply of old bourbon casks from its Four Roses distillery in Kentucky. Initially focusing on blends, the distillery now produces both malt and grain whiskies, each with its own stillroom.

The overstretched Seagram empire disintegrated in 2002, with the majority of its assets split between Diageo and Pernod-Ricard. Kirin kept Gotemba, renaming it Fuji Gotemba, and also bought Four Roses. Fuji Gotemba is now one of the world’s largest distilleries, having released its first single malt in 2004.
