Description

The perfect ambassador for the craftsmanship, culture and expertise of the historic Japanese house. This whisky is perfectly balanced, round and soft.

Masataka Taketsuru, born in 1894 to a sake-producing family, is regarded as the father of Japanese whisky. After training as a chemist, he began working for the Settsu Shuzo firm, which sent him to Scotland in 1918 to complete an apprenticeship. There, he discovered a liking for whisky and chose to devote his life to it. He founded Yoichi, his first distillery, on the Japanese island of Hokkaido in 1934. His expanding success enabled him to construct a second distillery near Sendai in 1969: Miyagikyo. The Nikka Whisky Group makes its whole line of Japanese whiskies from single malts from these two distilleries.
