Description

Fettercairn Distillery is a whisky distillery located in Fettercairn. Fettercairn town is named by the phrase “the foot of the mountain” and is located in the Howe of Mearns, beneath the Grampian foothills. Whyte & Mackay Distillers owns Fettercairn. Alexander Ramsay, owner of the Fasque estate, established Fettercairn Distillery in 1824 by converting a corn mill at Nethermill into a distillery.

Alexander was compelled to sell the land to the Gladstone family in 1829 after losing his money. William Gladstone, John Gladstone’s son, went on to become Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer, and was influential in passing many reforms regarding alcohol taxation. Fettercairn distillery was purchased by Whyte & Mackay in 1973 and has stayed with the company ever since.

Tropical fruit and sticky Jamaican ginger cake adds a sweet and spicy richness that is balanced with a smidgeon of bitter herbs and vanilla. Initially, nectarine, white blossoms, and milk chocolate appear. Darker tones are provided by black toffee and subtly roasted coffee.
