No exception applies to batch #77, which was aged on Spanish Oloroso Sherry butts. At 60.8% ABV, this expression offers a strong and unforgettable flavour experience.
Nestled in the heart of Speyside, Scotland, the Aberlour distillery has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1826. Aberlour has developed a reputation for creating whiskies of the highest caliber, with a specialization in sherry barrel maturation. Rich, sherried flavours and traditional methods are best showcased by the distillery’s A’bunadh line.
First, milk chocolate and vanilla; then, caramelized walnuts, sultanas, and cinnamon. becomes more fruitful, producing red apples, berries, and marmalade. Brown sugar follows, with a hint of dry barley in the background. Along with some butterscotch, polished wood, and cola candies. A rounded, modern sherry profile, but one that is unquestionably welcoming.
Tastes sweet and fruity initially, with a lot of candied pear, red grapes, and raisins. Then, maybe a touch too aggressively, oak, ginger, and black pepper begin to blend together. a verdant aspect as well. Black tea with a strong infusion of liquorice at the end.
Prolonged and rather coarse, with a finish of raw barley, spicy oak, and cocoa.
