Balmenach Hart Brothers Single Cask 10 Years 700ml

Given that most Balmenaches are aged in Sherry or Bourbon casks, this lovely little whisky is a bit of a rarity. This Hart Brothers version advertises a light-colored malt that suggests it was aged in a Bourbon cask. A little citrus flavour with a touch of ginger and green apples might be anticipated.

The Balmenach distillery, which is located on the River Spey in the very centre of Speyside, first began operations as an illegal enterprise in 1801. James MacGregor, the original inventor and a nearby farmer, didn’t decide to licence his ‘peat hut’ as a distillery until 1824. It was shut down in 1993, and Inverhouse Distillers Ltd. purchased it in December 1997. In March 1998, production was resumed.
