Distillery manager Ian Millar wanted to experiment with The Balvenie profile using what he had learned from a recent trip to Islay, so he purchased some Speyside peat for the kiln. The Balvenie distills a batch of peated malt for one week each year, producing a whisky with aromas of honey, vanilla, and citrus that is also delicately smoked.
On the nose, there is soft butterscotch honey, subtle floral notes, and sweet, sweet peat smoke. Smooth and round in flavour, with oaky vanilla, blossom honey, and citrus flavours balanced by peat smoke. A finish of lingering, creamy vanilla sweetness follows the little smoke.
